They form a band called Mighty Joe Young, with Robert DeLeo on bass, his brother Dean DeLeo on guitar, and Eric Kretz on drums. Scott Weiland met Robert DeLeo in 1987 at a Black Flag punk band concert in Long Beach, California. The group formalizes in November 2017 the arrival of Jeff Gutt singing. ![]() In 2013, singer Scott Weiland is replaced by Chester Bennington of the Linkin Park group. Stone Temple Pilots is being reformed in 2008. The band split in 2002 and Scott Weiland joined the group Velvet Revolver, with whom he recorded two albums. Stone Temple Pilots has nearly 35 million copies sold, and a Grammy Award in 1994 for its title Plush, from his debut album Core (one of the best selling records of the 1990s). ![]() The group's career is marked by important commercial successes, but also by the drug problems of its singer, Scott Weiland. At the beginning, the formation is associated with the grunge movement, before evolving towards a more hard rock style.
